Social Stigma Experienced By The Family Of Suicide Victims

Approximately one out of 10 adults, according to reports by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have suffered depression. Men are more successful in going through the act than women, research says. Women are more prone to do it more often compared to men as seen by research. Keeping a watchful eye on people who have suicidal inklings are being done by their family members, as advised by psychiatrists.
Just to break free from the cycle of hopelessness and despair from feeling caged, most victims feel that they have to kill themselves to experience freedom. Most people who are suffering from mental illness have not sought help because they fear that they might be labeled by the people around them. Problems may be avoided when proper management is taken with each level of mental illnesses. People who have died through this have left family members with questions that they might not be able to answer. People are often drawn to this kind of story because of the air of mystery that envelops the situation and people connected to it. Death through suicide often leaves an impact on the family and the community and may not always be seen in a positive light.
A very strong emotion that often plagues those who are left behind is guilt. It is felt in different levels though it would always linger because they think that they might have done more to prevent such incident. Emotions such as shock and disbelief are there too. The cause of such death are sometimes taken to the grave by those who have committed the act because they have not shared it with the people around them. Anger may be felt by those who were left behind, especially when the person is a symbol of strength. Different emotions will come to play while thoughts on why such act was done would plague their minds. Increased thoughts of self-harm are even seen among people who are using antidepressants. It was seen that Zoloft and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors may cause such thoughts to flourish. Concerned parents are now having second thoughts in letting their children take it and may consider a Zoloft lawsuit.
