One disease that finds a way to inflict you during your early childhood days is depression. When it comes, you often don’t know, and you could have been suffering from its effects for days, months even, without having a clue.

It was Martin Seligman, an American psychologist who proposed that depression is in a sense, something you learn. His exact words were “learned helplessness.” Somehow and for some inexplicable and non understandable reason, you have acquired the belief that you cannot control the outcome of your life or any event that is related. Readings from various research sources indicate that depression is more rampant in modern day than it was in the last century. For some reason, people are being more worried and sad as the days go by. This is not in the United States alone in fact; it is a thing that has been observed all over the world. But of course, anyone can do something about depression - they can choose to fight and win the war against depression, rather than allow it to win.

Depression may appear in anyone anytime from their childhood up until old age. Usually it begins when you get into your 20s but it has been known to start up plenty earlier, especially in recent times. Back in the day, one may have thought that it was something that took place only in people beyond the age of thirty, but well, we live in a fast changing world. If you have young children, it’s time to talk to them to ensure they are not always depressed. If they are, seek help for them right away, before it gets clinical. Depression can stem from negative thinking. As a matter of fact, it does most of the time. When you suffer, you tend to blame yourself for negative events in your life, and even in the lives of others.
