Zoloft Side Effects In Various Severity Levels
18th January 2012 by Depressed No CommentsAs reported by patients, Zoloft (Setraline) side effects manifest themselves upon taking it just like any other medicines. Minor side effects occur, and in extreme cases, life-altering ones too. According to a study by scientists from the University of California-Irvine, a mother’s depression can be felt by a fetus. This is just an incident of the many untoward side effects of the drug based on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Public Health Advisory.
In December 1992, Pfizer pharmaceutical company started selling and distributing Zoloft to the market. Zoloft is an anti-depressant medicine which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRI). This means that Zoloft balances serotonin which is a neurotransmitter that influences certain moods of people. Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and premenstrual disorders.
Conversely, there are extensive controversies if SSRIs, including Zoloft, can cause people to become more violent or suicidal.
Side Effects of Zoloft in Different Levels
Based on the clinical procedures by the FDA including reports from patients, Zoloft has been labeled to have seriously harmful side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
Drowsiness, weakness, constipation and diarrhea are reported to be Zoloft side effects that are most commonly experienced. Side effects also include agitation, impulsiveness, nervousness, nausea, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculatory delay.
Some of Zoloft side effects are minor and that medical attention is seldom sought. On the other hand, the drug has also serious side effects that requires you to act on it immediately. Zoloft patients should report to their physicians and healthcare providers if they experience the following:
- Tremors

- Fainting
- Memory problems
- Confusions
- Hallucinations
- Personality changes
- Suicidal thoughts
Warning from Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
In March 24, the FDA commanded the drug manufacturer for Zoloft label changes because of the results of studies showing the earlier stated side effects.
FDA also sent a Public Health Advisory that provided further cautions to physicians and patients that Zoloft tends to increase the occurrence of suicidal tendencies and risks of birth defects.
The warnings and clinical findings were considered too late especially for the victims of Zoloft.
Hence, immediately consult your physician and healthcare provider if you have any doubts and concerns on your health condition linked with Zoloft intake. A number of Zoloft Lawsuit is actually filed against Pfizer, its manufacturer. The lawsuits filed contained allegations that the company has been fully-aware of the negative side effects of the drug yet they still continued selling it. Thus, aside from medical consultation, you should also seek legal advice to find out if you qualify for a medical compensation from Zoloft manufacturer.
